Welshpool-based KW Brickwork Contractors Ltd built facing brick off scaffold as a cladding skin against wall panels on these public-sector buildings. Our public-sector work includes new schools, Ministry of Defence projects and hospital buildings. The photos show buff and white-grey facing brick, dark engineering-brick bases, contrasting dark brick panels and red-framed windows.
What the photos show
KW Brickwork's public-sector work includes new school buildings, Ministry of Defence projects and hospital buildings. These photos come from that work. They show facing brick built as a cladding skin against wall panels on larger buildings, most of it off scaffold. We don't say which photo is from which kind of site, and we don't name any site, organisation or contractor.
Buff brick to clad buildings
Several photos show buff facing brick going up against white wall panels, with a dark engineering-brick base course and a plinth below. The long runs are racked back cleanly at the end of each day's work, and the base course runs level along the building. From the scaffold, buff brickwork is shown rising to meet a pale profiled metal roof, with bricks, tubs and buckets on the boards and corners racked back beside the panels.
White-grey brick and contrasting panels
Another building is clad in white-grey facing brick with dark brick panels. The photos show it under full scaffold with a stair tower, and along the scaffold walkways, where the white-grey brick is built around red-framed windows. The change between the light and dark brick has to land on the same line on every panel. One photo shows bricklayers at work on the scaffold, with spot boards and mortar laid out along the walkway.
Working on these sites
Public-sector sites usually come with tighter rules than housing sites: inductions, permits, set working areas and, on some sites, controlled access. The brickwork itself is the same trade done carefully: set out properly, built plumb and to gauge, and kept clean.
