Brickwork packages, not just plots

On a larger job the question isn't only whether the bricklayer can build a good wall. It's whether the brickwork package will keep pace with everything else on site, week after week, without the site manager having to chase it. That's what this page is about.

Our photos include multi-plot housing phases with beam-and-block floors going in across several plots at once, rows of houses scaffolded together, and public-sector buildings with long elevations of facing brick built off scaffold. That's the kind of work we plan for.

Planning the package

Before we start a larger package we agree the sequence with you: which plots or elevations first, when each scaffold lift will be ready, where materials will be delivered and stored, and how the brickwork fits between groundworks, scaffolding, roofing and other trades. We price and plan from the drawings and your programme, and we're honest at quote stage about what we can resource and when.

On multi-plot work we try to keep the gang moving in a steady rhythm across plots: loading out the next plot while the current one is being built, so no one is standing waiting for materials or scaffold.

Consistency across a big job

The bigger the job, the more the finish depends on consistency. We blend bricks from several packs so there's no colour banding between plots, keep joint thickness, gauge and pointing profile the same throughout, and set out each plot or elevation from the drawings rather than copying the one next to it. Stone bands, plinths and contrasting panels have to line through on every building.

Communication

Site managers on large jobs need to know where the brickwork is and what's coming. We keep you updated on progress, raise drawing queries in writing and early, and tell you in good time about anything that could affect the programme, such as materials, weather or access. Cold or wet weather is planned for rather than ignored. We follow the NHBC Standards and the specification on when masonry can be laid and how new work is protected.

We don't publish headline numbers for gang size or output here, because the honest answer depends on the job and when you need it. Tell us the scope and programme and we'll tell you straight what we can commit to.

Safe, tidy working

Large sites run on good housekeeping. We keep our working areas and scaffold lifts clear, stack materials safely within scaffold loading limits, clear up brick cuts and packaging as we go, and follow the site's rules, inductions and method statements.

Why a smaller company can suit a big job

With a limited company run directly by the bricklayer, the person pricing the job is the person on site. Decisions about setting out, materials and sequence don't have to go through layers of management, and the site manager has one number to call. Kris is on site and knows where the work stands. For a main contractor or housebuilder, that means fewer surprises and a faster answer when something changes.
