Single-storey education buildings: facing brick cladding
Welshpool-based KW Brickwork Contractors Ltd built the facing brick cladding on these single-storey buildings of the type built for schools, as part of our public-sector work. The photos show long elevations in buff and red facing brick with dark engineering-brick base courses, regular window bays, and a brick panel going in beside a play area.
What the photos show
KW Brickwork's public-sector work includes new school buildings, Ministry of Defence projects and hospital buildings. These photos show single-storey buildings of the type built for schools, with facing brick cladding. One has play equipment in the yard. We don't name the sites, the organisations or the main contractors.
Long, plain elevations
Most of the photos show finished elevations. One building is clad in buff facing brick with a dark engineering-brick plinth, running the full length of a new car park and footpath, with window bays at regular spacing. Another is in red facing brick with dark window frames and a steel entrance canopy over a tarmac yard. A plain red brick gable carries only a louvre vent and an extract hood.
Plain elevations like these are where brickwork quality shows most. With no stone bands or features to break them up, the bond, gauge and joints have to stay even along the whole length. The dark base course has to run level all the way round.
Around services and plant
Two photos show red brick elevations with heat pump units standing in front on concrete pads, and a glazed entrance door with a wall light. Openings for louvred doors and vents are formed cleanly in the brickwork.
